Following on from the release of their Some Drums collection, Song Athletics have announced the launch of a second sample pack, AmBient. Included are a selection of loops and one-shot samples that capture a range of instruments all recorded in the same key and tempo, offering a collection of sounds that users can combine to create their own evolving soundscapes.
As its name suggests, the pack is aimed primarily at those creating ambient music, and promises to deliver sounds that are full of space, texture and atmosphere. All of the pitched sounds have been recorded in a minor, and all of the included loops run at a tempo of 60 BPM, so can all be freely combined to quickly create new sounds and musical ideas. All of the sounds have been captured through a high-quality signal chain, with microphones including a Neumann U87, Gefell M930 and AEA R92 fed into preamps such as a Universal Audio LA-610, Focusrite ISAs, an AEA TRP and an Overstayer Imperial Channel.
Acoustic and electric pianos are provided courtesy of a Bentley upright, a Fender Rhodes Mark II and a Wurlitzer, whilst guitar and amp duties are fulfilled by a Yamaha FG180 acoustic and a Fender Telecaster along with a Vox AC15H1TV. Some synth samples are included, too, taken from a Korg Micro-Preset M-500 and a Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 08. No ambient collection would be complete without a healthy dose of effects, of course, and so the company have captured signals from a number of processors and tape machines including a Strymon Big Sky, Roland Chorus Echo RE301, Tascam 388, ProCo RAT and a Revox B77ii.
Compatibility
AmBient contains a selection of 24-bit/48kHz WAV files that can be used in any DAW.
