Genelec reveal 9401A System Management Device

Company continue to expand UNIO platform

Genelec 9401A System Management Device

Genelec have expanded their UNIO Audio Monitoring Service platform with the release of the 9401A System Management Device, which brings ST2110, AES67 and RAVENNA AoIP (Audio-over-IP) networking capabilities to their range of SAM (Smart Active Monitoring) monitors and subwoofers.

The 9401A comes equipped with 16 monitor outputs along with dedicated subwoofer and auxiliary stereo outputs, all via AES/EBU. It is capable of facilitating channel formats from stereo up to 9.1.6, bringing the convenience and flexibility of multi-channel networked audio to the UNIO platform.

The auxiliary output can be utilised as feed for headphones, allowing for binaural and secondary stereo loudspeaker monitoring, and tight integration with Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software provides system calibration and subwoofer alignment, as well as providing support for bass management. The subwoofer output then offers a simple way to chain together Smart Active Subwoofers to increase the low-frequency SPLs, and it is possible to link multiple 9401A devices to expand the system’s channel count and provide compatibility with 22.2 and other high channel count immersive formats.

The 9401A occupies 1U of rack space, and is compatible with sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz, supporting 16-, 24- and 32-bit resolutions. Gigabit Ethernet helps to ensure low latency, and the unit also supports the ST2110 broadcast suit, boasting ST2022-7 redundant network connectivity and NMOS integration for compatibility with enterprise management and automation systems. The company say the unit has been designed for decades of reliable service, and is built to the highest environmental standards at their factory in Iisalmi, Finland.

The system also integrates with Genelec’s new 9320A Reference Controller, which provides hands-on control over the monitoring functions built into the SAM family devices.

“With the UNIO platform, we’re providing audio professionals with a bridge between in-room loudspeaker and personal headphone monitoring, so that they can move seamlessly between the two with no interruption in workflow. Now, with the 9401A device, we’ve brought the networking power of AoIP to our range of Smart Active Monitors and Subwoofers — once again showing how Genelec solutions represent a secure and future-proof investment in professional monitoring.” - Siamäk Naghian, Managing Director, Genelec
