The latest update to Cableguys’ versatile effects plug-in bundle focuses on introducing a range of analogue-style features and enhancements. ShaperBox 3.5, which is a free update to existing users, brings some key features from the recently released FilterShaper XL to the collection’s other modules.
With the release of the latest update, the bundle’s DriveShaper distortion module gains the Smooth Clip algorithm featured in the standalone FilterShaper XL plug-in, expanding its saturation capabilities and delivering a wider range of tonal options. FilterShaper Core has also been kitted out with some of the algorithms and features introduced in its XL counterpart, with the Warm filters now able to control the Resonance Distortion section of the filter — an enhancement which Cableguys say is perfect for controlling squealing resonances and achieving warm-sounding textures.
There’s also a new Hard Dist option which enables hard clipping in the resonance circuit, offering a more aggressive sound character, and a new Safe Res option has been introduced that can be turned off in order to force the plug-in’s filters into self-oscillation. Lastly, the update introduces an animated filter response curve, which provides real-time visual feedback of the modulation behaviour.
Compatibility
ShaperBox 3.5 is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or higher. It is available in VST2, VST3, AAX and AU plug-in formats.
