Audeze Maxwell gains Head Tracking support

New Dolby Atmos Renderer integration announced

Audeze Maxwell gaming headset Dolby Atmos Renderer Head Tracking support

Audeze are well-known for their range of high-end mixing headphones, but they also manufacture the Maxwell and LCD-GX, a pair of headsets aimed at the gaming market. Now, with the beta release of a significant firmware update, the Maxwell has gained Head Tracking support that will introduce compatibility with the Dolby Atmos Renderer application, allowing it to be put to work on immersive mixing projects.

As of v5.1, Dolby Atmos Renderer is equipped with a Head Tracking feature that can be enabled when compatible third-party devices are connected. It tracks the orientation of the user’s head, allowing them to interact with a virtual room in real time whilst monitoring binaurally, aiming to create a more lifelike experience that mimics working with speakers as closely as possible.

The new firmware takes advantage of hardware already built into all Maxwell headsets, so new and existing users alike will be able to benefit from the new feature. With the firmware installed, connecting the Maxwell to a system running Dolby Atmos Renderer — either via a USB cable or its wireless USB dongle — will allow users to monitor Atmos content with real-time head tracking.

Compatibility

The new firmware is compatible with all Maxwell headsets. Currently, The Head Tracking feature on Windows systems is only available when playing back a master file using Dolby Atmos Renderer; macOS users are able to take advantage of the feature whilst mixing from a DAW into, or playing back a master file from, Dolby Atmos Renderer.

Availability

The beta version of the new firmware is available now. Instructions on how to set up the new feature can be found via the link below.
