New wavetable engine, Super Unison effect & more

Arturia MiniFreak firmware wavetable engine Super Unison effect

Arturia have announced the release of a firmware update for their MiniFreak synthesizer which introduces a new synth engine, additional effects and a number of feature enhancements.

The headline feature of the update is the addition of a new wavetable synth engine. Available on Oscillator 1, the engine provides users with a choice of 32 wavetables that greatly extend the instrument’s sonic capabilities. Arturia have also included a collection of 64 new patches that demonstrate what’s possible with the new engine. The second major addition comes in the form of Super Unison, a chorus-like effect capable of layering up to six duplicates of a sound on top of the original dry signal.

Alongside the new engine and effects, the update also enhances some of the instrument’s existing capabilities. Users are now able to decide whether the LFO rate corresponds to a single step or the entire Shaper curve, making it possible to create more nuanced, evolving and expressive modulations, and the Macro Edit mode now offers greater real-time control over modulation amounts. Additionally, the Clock Send and Transport Send features can now be toggled on and off, and the instrument’s level can now be controlled via MIDI CC7.
